Location Planning

For those interested in the particulars of our locations.

Questions we have received:

Do you reserve or just show up?

How do you select you locations and specific campsites?

There is something said for having the freedom of impromptu traveling, but we have found comfort in having plans. This way we don’t miss activities or opportunities.

How we do it

These are our current thoughts and guidelines we use as TARGETS for our travel.

  • Book Seasonal high demand locations early (summer, winter warmth, events)
  • Rule of 3 (Cia outlined previously); stay 3 days or nights, travel just 300 miles, get there by 3pm
  • 70-75 degrees weather locations based on the time of year
  • Destination Direction
  • Location preferences; Parks (National and state), golf courses, water for kayaking
  • Visits with family and friends along the way
  • Lower cost options- (senior discounts, memberships)
  • Connections needed, electrical, water , etc.
  • One nighters along the route are not planned except for Harvest Hosts

As an example, when we are planing to go to a specific national park we have yet to visit, we; look at the better times of year to target, consider what programs or activities to take advantage, review inside the park campgrounds options and availability and then plan the route with other things we may wish to see.

We then stack the next appropriate location on this route… as so on.
